About the institute

tehostekuvaThe Haartman Institute provides training in the fields of bacteriology and immunology, clinical pharmacology, clinical chemistry, medical genetics, pathology and virology. A transplantation laboratory also operates at the Institute.

Most Institute activities take place at Haartmaninkatu 3. The exceptions are Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Chemistry and Medical Genetics, which are located at Biomedicum Helsinki, Haartmaninkatu 8. The Biomedicum centre is host to several Haartman research groups that participate in Biomedicum research programmes.

The Haartmaninkatu 3 building, completed in 1966, was designed by architect Einari Teräsvirta. The Faculty of Medicine inaugurated the building by choosing it as the site of its ninth conferment of doctoral degrees ceremonies.
