Training in Hospital Chemistry and Hospital Microbiology

tehostekuvaSince August 2008, the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Medicine has provided the opportunity to complete a Licentiate of Philosophy degree with specialist training in hospital chemistry or hospital microbiology. The basic prerequisite for training is a Master's degree in philosophy, forestry and agriculture, or food sciences, or a completed degree programme in microbiology.

The discipline of clinical chemistry and haematology is responsible for the specialist training in hospital chemistry for the degree of Licentiate of Philosophy. During the specialisation period, students are introduced to the various areas of analytics in clinical chemistry and haematology in a laboratory of the Helsinki University Central Hospital. In addition, they gain in-depth knowledge of laboratory organisation, administration and finances in order to learn skills required for independent central hospital laboratory management and specialist duties.

The discipline of bacteriology and immunology is responsible for the specialist training for hospital microbiologists.

For more information about the training and the application process, see the Faculty webpages.
